Immunotherapy is a medical treatment where allergens (pollen, molds, etc) to which your pet is allergic are injected into your pet in increasing amounts and concentrations. After treatment, up to 90% of dogs experience changes in their immune system and become less sensitive to these allergens. Injections can be given at home or at our clinic, you and Dr. Sandifar will determine the best way to give these treatments. The immunotherapy injections are small quantities of fluid given underneath the skin. Most animals do not mind the injection especially if they are rewarded for their good behavior after the injection!

On average it takes about three to four months of therapy to see an improvement in your animal’s reaction to their allergens. The initial treatment usually lasts about six months in total, but since this is a lifelong issue, the treatments will be continuous with longer stretches of time between injections as needed.
